New Delhi, October 11 (EFE) .- Chile started their trip in Group B of the Women’s U-17 World Cup in India with a dominating win over New Zealand (3-1) on Tuesday.
After the start of the tournament, New Zealand snuffed out a number of early goal-scoring chances but failed to convert and quickly lost steam as Chile took the lead, winning a group that included Germany and Nigeria. .
Figueira scored in the 12th minute off an assist from Constanza Oliver, and Rovner put Chile ahead 2-0 with a penalty in the 22nd minute.
Emily Clegg’s 52nd-minute strike from a Helena Errington corner looked to have snapped New Zealand out of their stupor, but New Zealand’s hopes of turning the score around were short-lived.
Anais Cifuentes made it 3-1 in the 64th minute to seal Chile’s victory.
