to Scam your users. This is the accused Sony PlayStation UKin a lawsuit filed this week in which Japanese company A . was asked to 5,000 million pounds in compensation That compensates video game players and developers.

The lawsuit was filed by group solution (a well-known consumer protection organization led by Alex Neill) claims that Sony would have violated Great Britain’s competition laws with PlayStation, by imposing “unfair terms on game developers and publishers”, by artificially “raising prices”.

Filed with the Competition Court of Appeals, the complaint alleges that the company has abused its position as a market leader for years to impose conditions on developers and publishers, including a 30% commission on every digital game or purchase made through the PlayStation Store.

In this sense, Resolver Group claims that Sony’s policy has caused users to pay more for at least their games, the past six years. Likewise, the organization estimates that each PlayStation user individually, they would have paid between 67 and 562 pounds extra to be able to enjoy the Sony console.

In comments to the media, Alex Neil emphasized that the case he makes is strong and that “Sony’s policy is costing people who can’t afford it millions, especially in a time like now when it’s the cost of living.”

Similar lawsuits have been filed against companies like Apple or Google in the past, but this is the first time they’ve specifically targeted a video game console. In any case, it will be years before there is a non-appeal ruling and it remains to be seen how players will be compensated if the judge ultimately rules in favor of the plaintiffs.
