Maduro sends a letter of support to CFK
Venezuela’s President, Nicolas Maduro, has sent a letter expressing solidarity with Argentina’s Vice President, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner (CFK), after prosecutors requested a 12-year prison sentence for her.
The Venezuelan president also promised to defend “the heiress of Evita”, saying that “Bolivarian and Taveistic Venezuela will always defend you, comrades” from what he described as a “real and abhorrent farce” launched by the judicial forces.
Prosecutor Diego Luciani has requested a 12-year prison sentence and life disqualification for CFK for allegedly leading an illegal association that deceived the state by illegally awarding contracts to businessman Lazaro Paez.
Maduro also said that the accusations against the former Argentine president were part of the “New Condor Plan,” referring to the CIA-backed initiative during the second half of the 20th century, when the CIA was encouraged and supported financially and in other ways. Military dictatorships to overthrow elected leftist governments in America.
According to Clarin newspaper, Maduro’s message has special weight in the midst of a judicial dispute over the Venezuelan-flagged cargo plane that has been seized since June 8 at Ezeiza International Airport for its alleged involvement in Iranian-sponsored terrorist activities around the world.
I would like to express my absolute solidarity with you in the midst of this fierce battle that you are waging against the enemies of your country. I deeply admire the nobility with which you have faced such a storm of insults against you, the worthy heir of Juana Azurde and Evita. Maduro wrote: “Your enemies know very well that you are, today, the chief guardian of Argentine sovereignty and the strongest guardian of the interests and dreams of your people.”
They want to destroy you, dear Christina, or at least neutralize you because you are a back-up wall, a bulwark against the misery and lies of the stateless. I am sure that the truth will prevail in your case against the inauspicious and hideous law. And that Condor’s new plan, which our brother Rafael Correa so often denounced, will be defeated once and for all.”
Other left-wing presidents, such as Cuban Miguel Diaz-Canel, Colombian Gustavo Petro, Mexican Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Bolivian Luis Arce and Honduran Xiumara Castro, have sent messages of support to the Argentine vice president. Pietro and Ars emphasized that judicial “harassment” was in the interest of “burying” their political ideas.
CFK has always denied any wrongdoing and said the case against it was politically motivated.
