This is League A.

group 1France, winner of the second edition of the UEFA Nations League in 2021, unexpectedly finds itself two points behind Austria at the bottom of the standings. On the other hand, Denmark is two points ahead of Croatia in first place with two matches remaining.

group 2Spain are yet to be defeated in their four matches, but only one point separates them from second-placed Portugal, which they will face in Braga in the sixth round. On the other hand, Switzerland is one point behind the Czech Republic in last place in the group.

Group 3Surprisingly, Hungary finds itself at the top of the group that seemed to be the most difficult, even though Germany is only one point behind Germany, and Italy is one point behind the German national team. England, who have not yet won, fall into the relegation zone.

group 4With ten points, the Netherlands is the team with the most points in League A, three points behind second-placed Belgium, which they host in Round Six. Meanwhile, Wales are three points behind Poland at the bottom, and have scored one draw and three defeats so far.

How does League A of the UEFA Nations League 2022/23 work

League “A” consists of 16 teams, divided into four groups of four. Teams play their group rivals both on home and away in June and September 2022. The top four teams from League A groups will advance to the final knockout stage in June 2023. Teams finishing fourth will be relegated to League Two.

Wales midfielder Johnny Williams scored the first goal for the new competition, but his team lost away to Poland. Portugal scored a goal in the last minutes to stop Spain in its first match, along with some other surprises. Two goals from Andreas Cornelius gave Denmark victory in France and England beat a penalty by Dominic Zuboszlai in Budapest. On the other hand, Memphis Depay scored two goals in Holland’s victory over Belgium.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in Portugal’s victory over Switzerland and Robert Lewandowski increased his international tally despite his team’s 6-1 loss in Belgium. Harry Kane’s late goal against Germany scored his 50th goal for England.

Matchday 3

Five of the eight third-round matches ended in a draw in League A. Pablo Sarabia’s early goal in Switzerland gave Spain their first win, Portugal beat the Czech Republic with relative ease, and Mario Pasalic’s goal for Croatia ended Denmark’s perfect start in Group A1.

Matchday 4

England suffered their worst home defeat since 1928 in a 4-0 loss to Hungary, and Germany gave Italy five goals in the other Group A3 match. Haris Seferovic scored in the first minute of Switzerland’s home win over Portugal, and there was another surprise in Saint-Denis, where Luka Modric’s early penalty kick gave Croatia victory over France.
