Quito, September 16 (EFE). – The Ecuadorean state oil company Petroecuador announced on Friday that the volume of sales in the local market has reached 66 million barrels of different fuels since the beginning of 2022, and it is confident of exceeding the numbers of 2021, when it closed the year at 89 million barrels.
These sales occurred in various market segments and sectors such as aviation, automotive, electrical, industrial, shipping and artisanal fishing, which, according to the company’s statement, “enable the dynamism of the productive sector, transportation, agriculture and industry, among others.”
Since the end of August, Petroecuador has started its pilot plan to market in the country the Ecoplus 89, a new type of 89-octane gasoline for the automotive sector, which is sold at a free price.
By October, it hopes to start marketing Super Premium gasoline, with 95 octane, which will replace the 92-octane Super marketed so far, also at a free price, which consumes between 4% and 6% of Ecuador’s fleet.
The bulk of cars traded in Ecuador do so with subsidized fuels such as the Extra Petrol and EcoPa, with 85 octane, whose price is currently frozen at $2.40 per gallon (3.78 liters), or diesel, which is also priced at $1.75. per gallon. EFE
