PAHO meets the Venezuelan Public Health Assembly – PAHO/WHO

Caracas, September 21, 2022 (PAHO/WHO). – The Pan American Health Organization and the Venezuelan Public Health Assembly held a fruitful meeting on Thursday, September 15, in order to explore possibilities for cooperation between the two institutions.

Dr. Sol Peña, Dr. Luis Ichizuria and Dr. Alejandro Risquez participated in the Venezuelan Public Health Assembly. Present on behalf of the PAHO were Dr. Maria Mercedes-Perez, Family and Life Cycle Counsellor and Health Promotion Adviser to PAHO/Venezuela, and Mr. Christian Morales, PAHO/WHO Representative in the country.

It was agreed that they are next steps to define a roadmap for 2023 that includes holding forums and symposia on topics of common interest such as the effects of the so-called protracted COVID, epidemiological surveillance in general and other topics; Contribution of the public health community in Venezuela to the various PAHO distance training materials and final collaboration in evaluations of the cooperation and technical assistance interventions that the organization publishes in the country. For this purpose, a series of technical meetings will be held between now and the end of 2022.

Mr. Morales concluded by commenting, “Together we can help improve the health and well-being of Venezuelans, and there is no one left in this effort.”
