The theme stems from the romantic value and title of the “City of Perpetual Roses, which not only makes you fall in love every morning but also embraces you at every sunset,” according to the organizers.
This sixth edition bets on the magnitude of the past year and will bring nature lovers together in a tradition that highlights the beauty of the so-called country of eternal spring each November.
This is why Antigua woke up on Saturday with colorful flower arrangements in the streets, windows of homes, and the amount of public space that allowed neighbors to step in to the delight of natives and foreigners passing through the cobbled city, one such tourist destination. A symbol of this nation in Central America.
Again in the presence of the public, the event will have Central Park as the main interface with the Mercadito de las Flores.
But there will also be spaces for decorating monuments (memorial tributes), traditional competitions for facades, neighborhoods and bicycles, as well as the development of 70 art workshops and 17 galleries with the participation of more than two thousand artists.
In the case of gastronomic competitions, chefs will have to show their skills in preparing appetizers, main courses, desserts and cocktails with flowers.
There will also be traditional processions, this time Jesús de Nazarino de la Merced, on the 68th anniversary of the annual vigil, and the anniversary of Christ King of the Universe San Francisco el Grande.
Since 2016, “a team of entrepreneurs, Guatemalan dreamers, lovers of art and culture, but above all calls for eternal spring” to this unique event.
«We made the world talk about the festival of flowers in Guatemala, starting with the flower, until we fill the asteroid B612, the home of the little prince, with flowers; Where we tell magical stories, paint balconies, streets and doors with color, create a space full of artists and lots of colour,” they stated on their official Facebook event page.
Like every year – except for 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festivities started on August 15th with the Eternal Spring photo contest until the end of November, the month of flowers in the ancient capital of Guatemala.
And so, this weekend, at the Real Palacio de los Capitanes, the 25 best photos on the subject will be presented.
If Antigua falls in love on a daily basis at first sight, this will become an eternal Saturday with an explosion of colors and roses all around.
