When We first saw the Tecno Phantom X2, the only thing we could say at that moment was that it was “ugly”; Leaked low-resolution images seem to indicate that Tecno has simply randomly placed a huge array of cameras on the back.

The device has finally been announced, and we have to say we were wrong about at least one thing: There’s a compelling reason the cameras look the way they are, though that doesn’t mean the phone is still ugly even at high-resolution photos.

Retractable camera
The Phantom X2 Pro’s most striking feature, and perhaps the only one worth mentioning, is the selfie camera, not only because of its high 50MP resolution, but also because of the fact that it’s retractable. In fact, when we activate it, The camera appears from behind the mobile phonewhich allows us to take pictures at 2.5x magnification, with an aperture of at least f / 1.5, which is excellent for what we are used to in this segment, and even more so for a 65mm lens like this.
This opening allows Samsung’s 50MP sensor to take in more light, thus getting better photos regardless of the situation or time of day. This camera allows us Get a natural “bokeh” effect, unlike the vast majority of mobile phones that simulate using algorithms; We are talking about this blur effect in the background behind the subject we are photographing, and this allows us to better separate the two parts of the image. And to all this we must add the 2.5x optical zoom.
Only the Pro model has this particular camera; At least it is also worth noting the main camera of both models, given the fact that it is an RGBW sensor, with a white sub-pixel that allows 60% of the light to be captured, and that one of the lenses is made of glass instead of plastic as usual.
Unfortunately, Tecno decided not to implement optical stabilization of any kind, even though all cameras at least have autofocus, allowing the wide-angle to be used as a macro camera.
With all this, it may be made clear that the camera array is in this position and in this design; In theory, with the necessary mechanisms of a retractable cam, though perhaps something could have been done differently. What explains less is that the rest of the phone’s departments are pretty mediocre, with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor that’s not even the top of its range, although a 6.8-inch AMOLED display should at least be fine, at least using a 120Hz panel covers 100%. of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Tecno Phantom X2 is currently only priced in Saudi Arabia, where it will cost 2,700 riyals (683 euros), while the Pro model with a retractable camera will cost 3,500 riyals (885 euros).
