“Also on this occasion, I would like to renew my call to end the war and open negotiations leading to a civilian government. Sudan needs peace,” the prime minister said.

Pope Francis also made a new appeal last Sunday to end the armed conflict in that country, which began on April 15 between the army and the so-called Rapid Support Forces, which has already killed more than 400 people.

“Unfortunately, the situation in Sudan remains dangerous, so I renew my appeal to stop the violence as soon as possible and to resume the course of dialogue,” said the Supreme Pontiff.
