Review of The Magic Door: An exercise in maze magic

It is true that history and archetypes are fictional “The Magic Door” is associated with Harry Potter and other literary film franchises It is in the past two decades that the genre of fantastic adventures by and for teenagers has swept by. But it’s also true that despite the huge ups and downs and lack of definition, he’s trying to contribute other kinds of things to this kind of story. Its main drawback is that the story piles on so many ideas, great or evil spaces and colorful characters, that the buildup ends up not sitting well.

In the shadow (futile and inconsequential) of the labyrinthine civil service operations described by Franz Kafka’s intricate prose, The Magic Door is set in a strange place, a mysterious project for who knows what, and in which two young men are involved. The trainees have a harmless, repetitive task until they discover that there is a trapdoor that allows them to enter and exit other places by simply opening or closing it.

Visually, the movie has very good ideas in it, though the aesthetic and digital effects are a bit bewildering to that fantasy.. The parts in the vaults and archives could have been more bleak, and the minor characters take on the flesh of famous actors, when they want, with might and main, like Christoph Waltz and Sam Neill.
