Representatives of the government, international entities, academia and the private sector will participate in the forum organized by the United Nations and the National Center for Artificial Intelligence of Chile (Cenia).
According to a statement from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the AI Index for Latin America will be presented at the meeting, which aggregates information on the current situation in three dimensions: enablers, research and development, and governance.
This indicator also reflects the gaps between countries and the best practices adopted by different countries and organizations.
Among the speakers at the event are the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, José Manuel Salazar Zyrenachs; Head of European Cooperation Ewot Sandker. and Chilean Science Minister Aysin Echeverri.
Experts will discuss in a panel discussion the need to move towards their own vision regarding the benefits and threats of artificial intelligence, its connection to digital transformation agendas and its productive, social and institutional impact.
According to experts, artificial intelligence is a technology that makes it possible to solve complex problems and improve health, education, the economy and the environment.
However, it can also lead to risks such as job losses, information manipulation, and even threaten the survival of our species.
In order to enhance the positive impact of artificial intelligence and reduce the risks associated with it, ECLAC said, it is necessary to obtain reliable information about its practices in the region, which will be key to determining public policies that promote its development.
The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, recently called for the regulation of AI for the benefit of all, which requires restrictions based on human rights, transparency, and accountability.
Guterres insisted on the need to urgently reach consensus on the rules that should guide their use.
