Carlos Pareja Yannuzzelli, who was Minister of Hydrocarbons and former director of Petroecuador, was found unconscious in his cell at Pichincha Social Rehabilitation Center No. 2.
A statement from the National Comprehensive Care Service for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Teen Offenders (SNAI) explains that prison evidence found the former official and called ECU 911, for subsequent transfer to a health home.
Currently, Pareja is stable and medical treatment will continue when more information becomes available about his condition, states SNAI.
Since December 2021, Carlos Pareja Yanotsilli has been in prison 4, North Quito. He was transferred there for health reasons and family affinity from the Tungurahua Deprivation of Liberty Center in Ambato. The former oil official entered prison 4 after he surrendered to justice in August 2017, months after his escape in Miami, United States.
Carlos Pareja Ianuzelli has five guilty verdicts. He is sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for the crime of influence peddling, five years for the crime of bribery, six years in prison for illegal association, ten years for the crime of embezzlement, and finally ten years for the crime of embezzlement.
