Lithium Americas Corp. announced. announced the launch of two Environmental, Social, Governance, and Security (ESG-S) reporting projects for the North America and Argentina regions.

The two ESG-S reports, under the heading “Accelerating into a new era of sustainable valueIt highlights the comprehensive progress made by ESG-S from January 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, and reflects the company’s commitment to creating sustainable value, being a safe, environmentally responsible, and inclusive lithium company.

“Over the past 18 months, our business has gained significant momentum as we moved advanced lithium projects in Argentina and the United States toward full production in a sustainable and responsible manner,” said Jonathan Evans, President and CEO, Lithium Americas.

“We are uniquely positioned to close the global demand gap, while maximizing sustainable value for our diverse group of stakeholders,” stated the CEO.

Thus, he noted, “In early 2023, we started construction on the Thacker Corridor in northern Nevada, through which we will play a major role in building the North American lithium supply chain, and in June 2023 we achieved the first lithium production in Cauchari-Olaroz in northern Argentina, It is the largest new lithium brine operation to operate in more than two decades.

This year, the company included a stakeholder matrix in the reports to clarify the mechanisms of its engagement with the various stakeholder groups; Estimated operational carbon intensity per tonne of lithium carbonate produced at Thacker Pass and Caucharí-Olaroz; and illustrations and diagrams of how water flows and is recycled at Thacker Pass and Caucharí-Olaroz.

Other significant achievements of ESG-S include:

• Estimation of operational carbon intensity in the Thakker and Kauchari-Olaruz Corridor, and projected water intensity, as well as water reuse and recycling rates in the Thakker Corridor.
• A Community Benefit Agreement has been signed with Fort McDermitt Paiute and the Shoshone Tribe, the closest Indian community to Thacker Pass, as the latest development in a long-standing relationship.
• Seven communities surrounding Kauchari-Olaruz have received approval for the proposed Phase II expansion of at least 50%.

• A self-assessment of the Standard Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) in Koshari Olaruz was completed, as well as an external review of TSM’s protocols for biodiversity, community relations, health and safety, and water management.
• Voluntarily participate in the IRMA pilot initiative by completing a Thacker Pass draft standard self-assessment.
• They have enhanced security awareness and security performance management by implementing the SafeStart awareness and skills training program, along with the VelocityEHS security management program in Caucharí-Olaroz, Thacker Pass, corporate and regional offices.
• No recordable incidents were achieved in Thacker Pass, and the Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) was 1.68 in Caucharí-Olaroz, exceeding the site’s target of two per million man-hours.
