This information was announced at a press conference chaired by the Administrative Secretary of the Presidency, José Ignacio Baleza, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Victor Bisono, among other officials.

It became clear at the meeting that this measure will be implemented jointly by the Supérate programme, the sole beneficiary system and the social benefits director, and will benefit truck drivers, vegetable sellers, cafeteria staff, used clothing distributors and motorbike (motorbike-taxi) drivers. .

These people will receive between 25,000 Dominican pesos (about $450), 20,000 pesos (about $360) and 10,000 (about $180), depending on each case.

For this purpose, the government allocated 55 million Dominican pesos (about 992 thousand dollars), to be disbursed over a period of two months, according to the conference.

The government explained that the so-called emergency bonus was designed to help people in cases of disasters, whether they are of sudden origin, as in the case of explosions, or due to natural disasters, health emergencies or economic crises, among other reasons.

On the 14th of this month, President Louis Abi Nader ordered the closure of the land, sea and air borders with Haiti.

The Dominican government considers the unilateral construction of a canal by Haitian civilians on the Dajabon River, which the two countries share, illegal, due to the environmental and economic risks it poses.

At the same time, the Port-au-Prince authorities maintain their right to use the river in a fair and equitable manner and, therefore, have not indicated a cessation of work.
