MINNEAPOLIS — Royce Lewis snapped Minnesota’s 18-game losing streak in the postseason by hitting a home run in each of his first two games, and the Twins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Tuesday in Game 1 of the American League wild-card series.

Lewis hit a two-run shot over Kevin Gausman in the first inning and opened the third with another home run, sending Target Field into a frenzy.
The biggest celebration occurred a few hours later, when Dominican Joan Duran finished the ninth inning without a hit and earned the Twins’ first playoff win since October 5, 2004.
Minnesota had the worst postseason streak in North American professional sports. The Twins have not won the playoffs since Game 1 of the 2002 Championship Series at the Metrodome.
Louis was then a 3-year-old boy. Now, he has a knack for answering on big occasions.
He has five grand slams in 70 games over his career, and could lead Minnesota to a positive postseason streak instead of the habit of winning the division pennant and suffering elimination at the first opportunity.
For the Blue Jays, Dominican Vladimir Guerrero is 4-1. Mexican Alejandro Kirk 2-0.
For the Dominican Twins, Jorge Polanco 0-4. Colombian Jorge Solano 1-0. Puerto Ricans Carlos Correa 4-1, Willy Castro 1-0.
