In elections held in Ecuador over the weekend, the country elected businessman Daniel Noboa as its next president. Noboa (35 years old) will officially be the youngest president in the country’s history, and will take office next December for a period of 16 months, which is the remainder of the current term of President Guillermo Laso, who dissolved the National Assembly and expected elections to be held.
By obtaining more than 52% of the votes, Daniel Noboa won in the second round over the candidate, Luisa Gonzalez. “Today we made history, Ecuadorian families chose a new Ecuador, they chose a country with security and job opportunities. Daniel Noboa said on social media: “We are going through a country of facts where promises in the election campaign do not keep and corruption is punished.”
The economy and security are the main axes that Noboa must address, as he made clear in his election campaign. Noboa studied business administration at the Stern School of Business, public administration at the Harvard Kennedy School, and earned a master’s degree in government and political communication from George Washington University.
As part of his experience in the public sector, he attended the Ecuadorian Congress in the 2021 elections, where he was chosen as a representative for the province of Santa Elena and was head of the Economic Development Committee in Parliament.
The president-elect is the son of banana businessman Alvaro Noboa, who has been a presidential candidate on several occasions, but without achieving any success.
