If you’re thinking of leaving your city this holiday and you’re a lottery fan, you might want to travel to Southern California. This week, two lucky people bought a winning ticket at the same gas station, and it wasn’t just a prize, it was the 10th Mega Millions jackpot this year.
The lucky ones matched all six numbers in Friday night’s drawing: the white balls 21, 26, 53, 66 and 70, in addition to the golden ball Mega 13, according to the office that runs this drawing. The prize money has risen to $394 million ($188.6 million in cash) since it was last won in Texas on October 6.
Last Friday, both winners purchased their tickets at the Chevron gas station located at 18081 Ventura Boulevard, in Encino, Mega Millions said in a statement.
But Friday’s lucky streak didn’t end there – in addition to the grand prize, there were 715,952 winning tickets across all other prize levels in the December 8 drawing. Match twelve tickets with four white balls plus the Mega Ball to win the third level prize of the game. Two of the winning tickets were worth $30,000 each because they included the optional Megaplier, which was 3X on Friday night.
The other 10 winning tickets in the third tier are worth $10,000 each.
This year, there were approximately 10.5 million winning tickets, across all prize levels, during this series of 18 drawings.
Awards were won in 10 different jurisdictions: Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas.
Tickets for the game cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
