Remind those affected to stay home and only go to the doctor when symptoms last more than 3 days or get worse

Santander, December 29 (European Press) –

The Government of Cantabria, through the Ministry of Public Health, has recommended hygiene and prevention measures for the population in case of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus infection or other viruses causing catarrhal symptoms, in the current situation, at the beginning of the winter season. Respiratory infections are “very common.”

Therefore, in the case of a cold or flu that is not serious (with low fever and uncomplicated cold symptoms) it is recommended to stay at home without going to the health center or emergency services, because in principle the intervention of a doctor is not necessary. The risk of transmitting the disease to other people increases.

The Regional Directorate indicated in a press release that only if the symptoms are worrisome, you should go to a doctor's office, preferably at a health center.

In this sense, the signs and symptoms that require going to the health system are: high temperature, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, and a feeling of general malaise.

Among the measures suggested to protect yourself and others from influenza and other respiratory infections, and thus stop the spread of illness, are avoiding close contact with sick people and staying home if you are sick.

In this way, it is recommended to stay at home and avoid going out if it is not necessary to help reduce transmission of infection to others, as well as covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

It is also recommended to wash your hands frequently, and instead use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

In addition, frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school should be cleaned and disinfected, especially when a person is sick.

Finally, it is recommended to get a good rest, practice physical activity, drink fluids, and eat nutritious foods.
