A report by the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM), published on Monday on the website of the specialist journal Sanitá Informazione, suggests that these findings are linked to the quality of early detection service and advances in treatment.

However, cancer patients must wait 14 months to be treated with innovative therapies already approved at European level, which in the opinion of specialists means a failure of the system that must be overcome to improve current indications, as the report reflects.

“We are ready to collaborate with the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), to identify new models for early access, immediately after European approval, to innovative treatments that will improve survival,” said AIOM President Franco Peroni. And quality of life.”

On the other hand, the expert warned that “it is urgent to strengthen primary and secondary prevention programs to reduce the number of patients and improve the chances of recovery.”

He pointed out that “cancer is an ongoing epidemic, with more than a thousand new diagnoses being recorded in Italy every day, and estimates indicate that new cases will continually increase, by about 1.0 percent each year.”

Perrone added that despite the good results, the government and parliament “must be clear that oncology represents an important part of maintaining the national health system, and needs real and sufficient investments.”
