The Israeli Supreme Court demands that the government provide information about alleged violations against Palestinian prisoners

The Israeli Supreme Court has urged the government to provide information about the conditions of detention of Palestinian suspects in Sde Teman prison after allegations of human rights violations. Many human rights organizations have called for the closure of Sde Teman due to the violations against prisoners whom the Israeli authorities consider terrorists. The Supreme Court requests special information about the food provided to prisoners, health care, hygiene and other minimum prison conditions included in the Unlawful Combatants Law of 2002. Israel maintains unlawful combatants, a term applied under international humanitarian law. In this case to fighters from Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups who were captured in Israel on October 7 or the following days, and in the Gaza Strip during the current military campaign. The Israeli government has already announced its intention to close the Sde Teman facility, but for now it remains operational despite accusations of physical assaults and poor detention conditions that could constitute war crimes.
