Brazil condemns Israeli bombing and genocide in Gaza

“The Israeli government continues to sabotage the peace process and the ceasefire in the Middle East,” President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva wrote on social media.

According to the Palestinian Civil Defense, the Israeli bombing on Saturday killed 92 people in the Al-Mawasi camp for displaced persons in the southern Gaza Strip near Khan Yunis, and 20 people in the Al-Shati camp in northern Gaza.

Lula considered this bombing, which caused the death of hundreds of innocent people, unacceptable. He denounced “now with more than 90 dead and about 300 wounded in tents housing children, the elderly and women.”

For the head of state, it is astonishing that they continue to punish the Palestinian people, and he recalled the tens of thousands killed in successive attacks since last year, many of them in designated humanitarian areas that must be protected.

He stressed that “we, the political leaders of the democratic world, cannot remain silent in the face of this endless massacre.”

According to the President, a ceasefire and peace in the region should be a priority on the international agenda.

He stressed that “all our efforts must focus on ensuring the release of the Israeli hostages and ending the attacks on the Gaza Strip.”

Recently, the Brazilian executive authority confirmed its categorical rejection of any military action against civilian targets, especially those related to the provision of humanitarian and medical assistance.

He also stressed the importance of meeting the demand for an immediate ceasefire contained in UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which was approved on March 25.

He referred to the mandatory nature of the precautionary measures issued by the International Court of Justice on January 26 and extended on March 28 within the framework of the process initiated against Israel, on the basis of the Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

More than 38,500 dead, most of them women and children, and 70,000 wounded, is the initial toll of the military operation launched by the Zionist forces by land, air and sea on Gaza since October 7, when the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement launched an attack on the Gaza Strip. The armed action against the Israeli occupation has been ongoing for more than 70 years.
