Subway Cuts Sandwich Prices – NBC Chicago

Must Read

Subway is introducing a value meal for its long sandwiches, it announced Friday, joining fast-food rivals like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Burger King and Wendy’s in creating cheaper meal options to try to lure back customers.

Starting August 26, any foot-long sub can be ordered for $6.99. That’s in stark contrast to the regular price of a sub, which ranges from $10 to $14, depending on the city.

Those who order must use the promo code “699FL” in the Subway app or website to unlock the offer, which runs through September 8. Add-ons will cost extra.

Subway is in good company: In the past four months, several restaurant chains have used this strategy to lure back diners who have criticized price increases.

McDonald’s introduced a $5 meal deal in June, and decided to expand it a month later. It includes a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, 4 Chicken McNuggets, fries and a small soft drink.

Burger King also launched and expanded its $5 Your Way Meal, which offers a choice of three sandwiches, plus chicken tenders, fries and a drink.

Taco Bell is selling a $7 Luxe Cravings Box Value Meal, offering customers a chalupa supreme, a 5-layer beef burrito, a double taco, fries, nacho cheese sauce, and a medium drink.

Wendy’s offers a breakfast for two for $3, allowing customers to choose two items from a variety of breakfast sandwiches, a side of fries, and a medium-hot coffee.

Subway says its new deal is “as big as its famous foot-long sandwiches,” according to its press release.

“Today’s diners are more pressured than ever, and that often means sacrificing quality, variety or flavor to find an affordable meal,” Doug Frye, president of Subway North America, said in the statement. “Our menu is full of sandwiches that fit all budgets, and this new deal means our guests can get the sandwiches they want at a great price.”

The fast-food chain will also offer foot-long sweet and salty snacks, all priced at $5 or less.
