And the NASA video indicated that “the Earth appears to be upside down and spinning backward.”
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) released a video on October 16 showing a simulation of the motions.abnormal“Earth and sun as seen from the south pole of the moon.
Developed by NASA’s Science Visual Studio, the animation compresses the course of three months (just over three lunar days) into just two minutes.
The space agency reports that the virtual camera is located on the edge of Shackleton crater and points to Earth. The mountain on the horizon, about 136 kilometers away, is informally known as Mons Malabert.
“Here, the sun slides around the horizon, no more than 1.5 degrees above or below it, while the earth moves up and down, never deviating from 0 degrees longitude,” pointing to at NASA. “It looks like the earth is upside down and spinning backwards. The always low angle of the sun produces very long shadows that cast across the rugged lunar terrain.”
A little later in the video, during the “second month” of viewing, the Earth passes in front of the Sun and experiences an eclipse.
“For observers on Earth, this is Lunar eclipse, where the moon passes through the shadow cast by the Earth. However, from the moon, this is solar eclipseExplained in the video.
- This terrain simulation is made possible by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), which has been mapping the lunar surface since 2009.
- NASA concludes that LRO maps will be from vital importance “To explore the moon and locate water and other resources on it.”
