At first, Mark Twersky didn’t believe his grandmother when she told him about an uninvited visitor.
“She didn’t seem very nervous,” Mark said. “That’s why I didn’t believe her at first.”
Twersky’s grandmother, Dianne Twersky, 85, was inside her home in East Windsor, New Jersey, at 11:30 a.m. Friday when she heard the plane crash.
Diane said: “I heard the sound of exploding glass, then I heard the house shaking and hitting, and I was sure it was an earthquake.”
Soon the woman made a shocking discovery. A deer crashed through the window of the house and was wreaking havoc.
“So I crept down the stairs and peeked around the corner and, amazingly, saw this deer running around,” Diane said.
Diane called both Mark and her daughter-in-law, who called 911. Mark ran home from work to find animal control and police responding. They worked to harvest the animal before it could do any more harm while Diane was kept locked in an upstairs room.
“I looked in the kitchen,” Mark said. “The deer was really there.”
After animal control opened the back door, the deer left the house and jumped into a backyard pond as Mark recorded on his cell phone.
“The deer jumped up and was along that back wall. Along the ladder,” Mark said. It was a little dog paddling all the way to the ladder.”
Mark told NBC10 that a deer had a hoof on the stairs when animal control officers were finally able to catch the animal that had caused extensive damage inside the home. Officials said the animal was bleeding but appeared to be doing well. Then they released him.
“I felt very, very sorry for the animal and my daughter-in-law lost all her furniture and had to deal with insurance companies,” Diane said.
Meanwhile, Mark is thankful that his grandmother, who just moved to New Jersey last month, was unharmed during the accident.
“Three weeks! From NYC,” said Mark. “She’s not used to anything like this and then this happens to her. I can only imagine how amazing that must have been for her.”
