Accident on Route 77 leaves multiple injuries in Cumberland County, NJ – NBC Los Angeles

Authorities in New Jersey are investigating a staggering multi-vehicle accident that killed at least one person and injured more than a dozen on Friday night.

According to the uniformed officer, the accident was recorded in the southern lanes of Route 77, at the height of County Route 612 (Polk Lane) around 6:06 p.m.

Investigators explained that it all happened when the driver of a Chevrolet Express 3500, known as Heriberto Espinosa, 29, did not stop at a stop and proceeded to run over the driver of the Nissan Maxima.

The impact was such that both cars flew off and flipped onto the side of the road.

Espinosa was reported to have been traveling with 17 passengers, 16 of whom were not seriously injured, but a passenger named Rey Cornelio Diaz, 35, died after being thrown out of a window.

Espinosa and Nissan driver Paul Holsobel, 66, were injured but are expected to recover.

Police said that after the accident, the intersection was closed for about six hours. The investigation into the accident is continuing. No arrests were reported.
