American Magic cruised to a clear win over Team Emirates, the final team in the USA Louis Vuitton Preliminary Regatta, against New Zealand. The win came after extensive overnight repair work by American Magic’s ground crew, which ensured the Patriot was in top form for the race.
We had a great day against the defenders
With smooth sailing and clear communication on board, the team executed their strategy and delivered a performance that boosted their confidence heading into the next stage of the competition. Team Emirates finished third in the American Magic preliminary regatta behind New Zealand and Luna Rosa Prada Pirelli.
Paul Goodison added: “It was a different day today, with strong easterly winds and more waves than we’ve been surfing in recent days. Lighter winds, we hope, will return in the finals. We had a great day against the undefeated defenders. They are the best at the moment, so they will never be easy. But we had a great regatta. We sailed well, got a good start and controlled the race from there. So that’s very positive, especially after yesterday’s little disappointment.
