NEW YORK — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday that New York State has paid more than $2 billion in bonuses to more than 800,000 health care workers statewide through the Health Care Worker Bonus Program.
Governor Hochul launched the program in 2022, offering bonuses of up to $3,000 to eligible healthcare workers across New York.
“Healthcare workers work for New Yorkers every day, and that’s why we work for them,” said Governor Hochul. “Our strong investments put money back in workers’ pockets and help grow our health care workforce to deliver high-quality care to New Yorkers.”
The New York Health Care Worker Rewards Program issues payments to workers who provide health care services directly to patients.
Workers who receive payments through this program must have an annual base salary (excluding bonuses or overtime pay) of $125,000 or less, and may work full- or part-time.
Bonus payments are determined based on specific “vesting periods,” or the number of hours worked during a consecutive six-month period between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2024. Eligible employees received up to a maximum of $3,000 in total bonus payments over two years of vesting periods.

“The Health Care Worker Rewards Program is an important way for New York to help alleviate the current health care workforce shortage,” said Assemblywoman Amy Bolin. “I thank Governor Hochul for being an advocate for New York’s health care workforce. Health care workers are there for us during life’s most vulnerable times and we must be there for them.”
