Ultimate fever has no borders in Argentina
The rave of local fans of the national soccer team has led to Air Argentina scheduling two more flights from Buenos Aires to Qatar ahead of the World Cup final scheduled for Sunday. Tickets were sold out within a few hours.
The first flight leaves the Argentine capital on Friday morning and tickets sold out within half an hour of Argentina’s 3-0 win over Croatia in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
The airline said in a statement that tickets for the second flight, which departs Friday night, went on sale early Wednesday and were all gone two hours later.
“We were able to reach the final stage of this successful operation thanks to the victories of the national team that allowed us to continue programming flights,” said Pablo Siriani, President of the National Carrier. “Now we have to support them in this last game and hopefully bring home the World Cup.”
The company sold 540 round-trip tickets for the two flights, each costing about 2 million pesos (more than $11,000).
The flight takes 19 hours from Buenos Aires to Doha, with a stopover at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.
With these transfers ahead of the final, Aerolineas added 12 in total for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The corresponding flights for the quarter-finals and semi-finals sold out in less than 24 hours.
