Rome, July 26 (EFE). Argentinian director Laura Citarella and Chilean director Fernando Gozzoni will compete with their films in the Horizons section of the 79th Venice Film Festival, which begins on August 31, the organizers announced today.
Guzzoni (Santiago de Chile, 1983), considered “one of the most promising directors” by Mostra director Alberto Barbera, will present his third feature film “Blanquita”.
Citarella (La Plata, 1981), for her part, will compete with Trinqui Lauquin after she funded one of her previous works, La mujer de los Perros (2015), in the Biennale College programme.
The Horizons category is the second most important category at Mostra and is dedicated to new expressive trends in cinema.
On the other hand, Mexican Carlos Echelman Kaiser will present his film “Red Shoes” in the section “Extra Horizons”, as an extension of this avant-garde category.
The 79th Mostra will take place between August 31 and September 10 in Lido, the island of Venice where it was founded exactly ninety years ago, an event that will mark this edition.
On this occasion, the honorary award will be given to French actress Catherine Deneuve, icon of French cinema, and American director Paul Schrader, author of such masterpieces as “American Gigolo” (1980) or screenplays such as “Taxi Driver” (1976). ).
The Jury for the Horizons category will be chaired by Spanish director Isabel Coixet.
The rest of the members are Italian director Laura Pesbury, American Antonio Campos, author of The Devil All the Time (The Devil Of All Time, 2020) with Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson; Algerian Sofia Gama, who competed in Venice in 2017 with “Les bienheureux” and French critic Edouard Weintraub.
