SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Free agent Sean Manya has agreed to a two-year, $25 million deal with the San Francisco Giants, a person familiar with the deal said Monday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract had not been finalized and the club had not made any announcement.
Al-Manea will receive a signing bonus of 5 million, divided into two halves on March 15, 2023 and 2024, in addition to his salary of 7.5 million for the next season and 12.5 million in 2024. He has the option to terminate his contract after the next one. season and became a free agent.
He would provide a major left arm for a rotation that featured Logan Webb, Alex Cobb and Alex Wood. The Giants were without Carlos Rodon in free agency.
Manea, 30, spent his first six major league seasons with the Oakland Athletics and went 8-9 with a 4.96 ERA in 30 games, including 28 starts in 158 innings pitched in his only season with the San Diego Padres this year.
San Francisco finished 81-81 in third place in the NL West after recording 107 wins and the division title in 2021 before losing the Division Series to the Dodgers.
Outfielder Mithc Haniger agreed to sign a three-year, $43.5 million deal with the Giants last Tuesday at the Winter Meetings, and outfielder Jock Pederson agreed to a one-year, $19.65 million deal last month.
