While it is true that Aston Martin has made incremental improvements at each of the races held this year, the Hungarian Grand Prix has been marked in red on the Silverstone team’s calendar, as Fernando Alonso has said on several occasions.
Once at the Hungaroring, the winged brand revealed its impressive range of improvements, which includes up to six performance-only updates, while only one is dedicated to this weekend. See all AMR24 improvements.
Improvements for Alonso and Stroll Aston Martin in Hungary F1
Updated part | Reason for improvement | Differences with previous version | How does optimization work? |
---|---|---|---|
Front spoiler | specific circle | A new fender has been fitted that was already introduced at Silverstone but is more aggressive. | Increase the aerodynamic character on the wing to better balance the car compared to the more loaded rear wing this weekend. |
aura | performance | The halo fins have been modified. | The new fins are designed to control airflow in this area. |
floor | performance | The main part of the floor has been slightly modified. | New floor shapes improve airflow under the bottom and increase local loading and therefore performance. |
soil fins | performance | The new fins are redistributed along the floor with different curvatures and leading edge. | These changes improve the airflow passing under the floor and increase local load and therefore performance. |
edge of the earth | performance | Minor changes to floor edge details. | These changes improve the airflow passing under the floor and increase local convection and therefore performance. |
publisher | performance | The new publisher has a different look. | The changes modify the diffuser expansion to improve the flow characteristics and air load generated in that area. |
Spoiler beam | performance | The beam wing now has a second element above it. | Changes to the beam wing affect the performance balance between the ground and rear wing to improve performance. |
As you can see, most of the changes made to Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll’s cars have been cancelled. Soil, The most important area when looking for performance in these cars is ground effect..
Of the six updates aimed at improving lap times, three relate to the underbody, while the diffuser and spoiler updates also relate directly to the ground. Instead, the halo has been changed to control the flow of that area.
he Front spoiler The Aston Martin AMR24 also has minor changes, although they are simply intended to better link up with the more downforce-intensive rear wing the team will use this weekend in Hungary.
With this major package of improvements, the team hopes to take a step forward and leave behind the decline that kept it out of the points in two of the last three races of the season, with the aim of getting closer to the front group again, formed by Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes.
