The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced on Sunday that at least 4,360 people will be killed in 2023 in the war that has been taking place in Syria since 2011.
Last year, 3,825 people died, the lowest number since the beginning of the conflict, according to the same source.
Among the 2023 casualties are 1,889 civilians, including 241 women and 307 children, according to the UK-based NGO, which has an extensive network of sources in Syria.
After years of deadly and devastating fighting and bombings following the regime's brutal crackdown on anti-government protests in 2011, clashes have declined in recent years.
But sporadic fighting continues, as well as jihadist attacks, especially in the east of the country.

The conflict in Syria has claimed more than half a million lives since 2011 and has fragmented the country, with many forces and actors implicated.
Bashar al-Assad's regime regained control over a large part of the country with the support of its Russian and Iranian allies, but Syrian Kurdish forces control large areas in the north and northeast.
