It’s happened to all of us. After a long day all you want is to play your favorite game. And only when you sit down at the computer and want to show off some victories, you realize that the game needs an update!
Do you demand the game to be ready when you are most prepared? Well, the wait is over, because we are bringing you a feature that will refresh your games in the background while you are away, so the days of staring at update bars are a thing of the past.
A background update allows the Riot client to download and install versions of all games, as long as the client is kept open. If you choose to use it, this feature will update your games so they are always ready to play right out of the box. Future versions of the feature will also allow the Riot client to run on launch.
The first version of the background update will only completely update VALORANT. Since League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics are partially updated within their clients, they do not fully support the background update feature. However, part of the update process for these games is done in the Riot client and that part will support background refresh, which means players can expect improved refresh times across all games.
In the meantime, we’re working hard to unlock full background updates for League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics as soon as possible. Players using the Riot client beta will get this feature starting today, with the full version set to launch next month.
