Puerto Rican Governor Pedro Pierluisi told CNN reporter Anderson Cooper that the damage the island of Puerto Rico suffered from Hurricane Fiona was primarily related to the rain. AC360 Monday night.

“By the time the tail leaves Puerto Rico, we will have received approximately 36 inches of rain. That’s a lot of rain,” he said.

He added that about 115,000 of the 1.4 million customers on the island currently have the strength.

It was reported that the entire island was in darkness in the early hours of Monday morning PowerOutage.us.

In addition, 35% of customers receive water services because water purification plants are affected by river floods and excessive rainfall, according to the governor.

Berluisi had hoped that within “a few days” they would be able to restore power to most customers, although he said they were unable to check many power lines because of Fiona’s remains on the island.

“We are now much more prepared than Puerto Rico was five years ago when Hurricane Maria hit,” Anderson said.

“FEMA now has four warehouses located all over Puerto Rico instead of one, so we have enough supplies coming in from FEMA. We also have our own supplies and the coordination we have with municipalities and state governments, and FEMA itself has been excellent so far.”

“Our grid is still very fragile,” he said of the island’s electrical system.
