BOGOTA, (EFE) – Colombian coffee chain Juan Valdez opened its first store in Egypt on Thursday in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza as part of its expansion plan in European and Middle Eastern markets, the company said.
“Accessing this new market represents a tremendous opportunity for Juan Valdez, as Egypt is one of the countries with the highest amount of tourism in the world and has important investment projects,” Sebastian Mejia, the company’s international vice president, said in a company statement.

The information added that the store is located in the city of Giza within the Egyptian pyramids complex.
The Colombian brand, with the help of distinguished commercial agencies and franchise management, plans to expand into Egypt and establish itself in the retail market and supermarket chains through its roasted and freeze-dried coffee production line.
Likewise, Juan Valdez plans to open a second store in Egypt in Heliopolis and another in New Cairo, as well as implementing about 60 openings in the next five years to become a benchmark “in the convenience store and packaged coffee category.”
This is because, according to Euromonitor figures mentioned in the information, the size of the coffee market in this African country is 25 thousand tons and its value is close to 523 million dollars.
Colombia is the world’s largest producer of washed mild Arabica coffee, and the livelihoods of about 560,000 peasant families depend on its activity.
