New Zealand has released a draft Tourism Environmental Action Plan that aims to start a conversation about how the industry can positively impact the natural environment, which is key to achieving a regenerative tourism model that leaves an established and indigenous community and nature behind. Better than before.
The project identifies that tourism can lead to a shift in the overall economy towards a regenerative lifestyle. Marguerite Fitzgerald, President of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises Australia, He said it was a privilege to work with the leadership team to prepare this preliminary plan. “Our commitment to give more than we take is central to our goal management philosophy,” he declared.
The Larissa Cooney, Co-Chair of the Tourism Environment Steering Committee, He said the group wanted to hear a wide range of views as the table represented industry, government, Māori and unions. “For the most part we see this project as a draft. “We are proposing a step change in the approach to tourism and the environment in New Zealand, so a robust debate is now necessary before we make our final decisions,” he said.
