María Cristina Jimenez, the executive director of Coral Gables Hospital, was allegedly shot and killed by her husband, Antonio Mazurana, 62, who held a similar position at Hialeah Hospital. According to the police, it is a murder-suicide, because after committing the crime the man committed suicide.
The crime took place on Wednesday at the home the couple lived in, at Southwest 57th and 34th Streets, in the busy neighborhood of Schenley Park. Today the neighbors did not want to comment on camera about what happened, but told us that they are a couple who are strong in the field of health and are achieving great success in their careers.
During a telephone conversation, the brother of the alleged killer, Ivan Mazurana, told us that the family was shocked that everything seemed to be fine between them. “I feel sorry for my family and Christina’s family, this cannot be explained,” were her words.
More than 30 years ago, María Cristina Jimenez began working at Coral Gables Hospital, where she held various responsibilities until she reached the highest position. One of his accomplishments was making the hospital the first in Miami-Dade County to perform total hip and knee replacements. He was 61 years old.
