The coronavirus pandemic has already infected 218.8 million people and 4.54 million deaths globally, according to information from Johns Hopkins University, which monitors and collects COVID-19 data globally. The United States is the worst affected country, with nearly 40 million cases and 643,117 deaths since the start of the health crisis in 2020. In Spain, 4,871,444 people have been infected and 84,640 have died since the beginning of the pandemic. On Thursday, the Ministry of Health reported 9,561 new infections and added 168 deaths to the official census. The 14-day infection rate dropped 11 points, to 210 cases per 100,000 population. Spain also reached 70.9% of the population under the full guideline, 33.65 million people. In addition, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) does not consider it “urgent” to administer the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to the general population, the agency said in a statement that also supports additional injections of immunosuppressive therapy.
