MADRID, November 10 (European press) –
NASA’s innovative helicopter on Mars has successfully completed its fifteenth flight over the surface of Jezero crater on Mars, It arrived in February attached to the Perseverance rover.
Ingenuity, the world’s first controlled powered aircraft, flew on November 6 for 128.8 seconds and took pictures of scientific interest, As reported by Jet Propulsion Laboratory on its Twitter account.
Its route is the first stage of a series of 5 to 7 flights that will return the helicopter to its first airport on Mars, which is called Field Wright Brothers by those responsible for the task, Before venturing over.
Along the way, Mission Control is considering preparing an update to our helicopter’s flight software that will potentially enable new onboard navigation capabilities and better prepare creativity for the challenges ahead. I reported about the mission in a pre-flight blog.
Creativity Flight 15 was to travel 406 meters over a hilly area at a speed of 5 meters per second and at a height of 12 meters.
This was the second creative expedition through the low air density of the Martian summer, Which requires the rotor blades to rotate at 2,700 rpm to compensate. This flight produced a high-rpm engine performance, which the team will use to design and customize upcoming low-intensity flights in the coming months.
So far, Ingeniously captured 83 13MP color photos, 1,772 black-and-white navigation camera images and undergone two flight software updates along the route.
