At the Olof Palme Convention Center, venue of the event, the Caribbean nation, represented by the Medical Services of the Revolutionary Armed Forces with means produced by the Military Industries Union, is exhibiting two interesting pieces of equipment developed in recent years.

This equipment was created to improve the qualitative and quantitative examination of pilots, divers and scuba divers working in the aviation and underwater medicine sectors.

The first piece of equipment is a computerized swivel chair for the review of vestibular disorders, Bárbaro Socarras, research and development coordinator at Grito de Baire, a subsidiary of the Military Industries Federation, told Prensa Latina.

“It is about the diagnostic evaluation of vestibular dysfunction, which is one of the very important organs in spatial balance,” he said.

He added that other equipment is an inclined bed whose function is to conduct diagnostic exploration of the autonomic nervous system through a set of tests designed globally and others included in the practice of Cuban doctors.

Socarras stressed the importance of participating in this exhibition and commented that the equipment displayed by Cuba penetrated the above-mentioned medical diagnosis and achieved excellent results.

“We consider this very important because in this case, eye movements called saccades are a very important biomarker for detecting ataxia, which in Cuba is characterized by a high prevalence of this genetic disease.

In this sense, the official stressed that the goal is to ensure that both devices are able to influence the diagnosis of the Cuban population.

“Clinically, the first team is distributed by several hospitals in our country within the national health system and is used in the clinical setting for the topographic diagnosis of diseases affecting the vestibular system,” he said.

Referring to the tilt bed, a high-precision electrocardiogram device, Socarras said it is currently undergoing clinical trials at the Military Hospital and Sports Research Center in the Cuban capital.

He stressed that “this equipment is also very useful because it allows you to work or investigate and diagnose problems related to cardiovascular regulation.”

The 2nd International Health and Technology Exhibition takes place on Friday and concludes tomorrow as part of the days of celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Military Medical Corps and the Nicaraguan Army.
