Yuri Gala, Al Jazeera’s permanent alternate ambassador to the organization, denounced Tel Aviv’s actions with impunity in the conflict that began on October 7, “taking advantage of the complicit position of the United States government,” he said.
During an open debate held by the world’s highest peace body, the Cuban representative called for a permanent ceasefire, along with an end to war crimes and crimes against humanity against the suffering Palestinian people.
The diplomat noted that Cuba had decided to intervene as a third party in the controversial procedure initiated by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice, in line with its firm commitment to support and contribute to efforts aimed at ending the genocide.
The Ambassador also urged the removal of obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid, while endorsing his country’s support for Palestine’s admission as a member state in the United Nations, an essential step towards moving towards a final solution to the conflict.
“We demand a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, based on the establishment of two states, which allows the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish a free, independent and sovereign state, within the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and this also guarantees the right of return for refugees,” he stressed.
