Dead and wounded in an attack in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan

According to Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency service, the dead were children and teenagers who were training on a soccer field when the explosion occurred in Majdal Shams, a Druze-majority town.

Although no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, Benjamin Netanyahu’s government pointed to the Shiite militia, which it claimed had “nothing to do with the incident” and denied “all false accusations.”

We are facing a comprehensive war, and I have no doubt that we will pay the price, but we will demand a greater cost from Hezbollah, Foreign Minister Israel Katz threatened on the social network X.

After the event, Defense Minister Yoav Galant met with the Chief of Staff of the IDF, Gen. Herzi Halevi, amid preparations in recent weeks for an eventual major offensive against Lebanon. The most extreme sectors of Netanyahu’s government and the Israeli right are demanding a large-scale incursion into the northern neighbor, which could lead to a regional conflict, according to the United Nations.

Since October of last year, Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged blows on the border following the IDF’s assault on the Gaza Strip, which has since killed more than 39,000 people and wounded 90,000 others, most of them women and children.

The armed group has repeatedly stated that it will continue its military operations until the country leaves Gaza, and has warned that a ground operation against Lebanon would lead to an all-out war with no red lines.

Israel occupied much of the Golan in the 1967 war, although the international community has since demanded it be returned to Syria.
