2022 is not a good year to replace agricultural tires.
Replacement tire sales in Europe completed the third quarter in red. Although the trend of accumulated volumes at the end of September remains positive, the development is negative for all product segments in the July-September period.
According to the data you provided European Tire and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA)This is likely a sign of a market reversal after the recovery we’ve seen since 2021. Looking at the third quarter of this year, sales were negative for all segments, with a 9% drop for both consumer tyres, as for truck and bus tyres. Sales of replacement agricultural tires continue to decline, this time by a massive 28%.
unit × thousand | 3 Quarter 2022 | 3 Quarter 2021 | Variance (%) |
Consumer tires (replacement) | 58,029 | 63,792 | -9% |
Truck and bus tires (replacement) | 3,255 | 3564 | -9% |
farm tires (replacement) | 191 | 266 | -28% |
Motorcycle tires (replacement) | 2055 | 2,177 | -6% |

In general, the good results accumulated in the first half allow us to keep 2022 at positive levels compared to 2021, with the exception of agricultural tyres.
In addition to the tensions in the supply of raw materials and energy, with increased costs (about +60% since 2019), as well as logistics and labor, we are beginning to notice a slowdown in demand. If the inflationary trend and supply tensions continue, we can fear a very difficult end to this year and a very difficult year 2023, predicts Fazilet Cinaralp, ETRMA Secretary General.
