Miami, Florida. As the number of travelers on these holidays exceeded pre-pandemic levels, flight cancellations continued on Monday at South Florida airports.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has canceled 16 times, including 6 outbound flights and 10 incoming flights. Miami International Airport has canceled 41 cancellations, including 17 outbound flights and 24 incoming flights.
Despite the outages, air transport is clearly recovering, said Indira Almeida Bardillo, a spokeswoman for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.
“Yesterday we had more than 155,000 passengers, even with cancellations and delays,” Almeida Bardello said.
Cancellations across the country numbered in the thousands. Airlines blamed them for staffing shortages due to rising omicron injuries and winter weather shocks in Minneapolis, Seattle and Salt Lake City.
