Mexicali, BC- Cachanilla cyclist Daniel Garcia took part in the APL New Zealand Grand Prix at the Cambridge track in New Zealand with the aim of training internationally for the upcoming national competitions.

Garcia rode in the Keirin and Sprint Elite categories, where he faced 70 competitors from Australia, the United States, Japan, France and the host nation. In addition, it is a competition recognized by the International Union of Cyclists (UCI).

In the 200m sprint test, Daniel finished eighth with a time of 10.558, with New Zealand's Sam Dakin, Callum Saunders and Liam Kavanagh completing the winners' podium.

“I had problems with my front tire, when I warmed up, I noticed that I lost air quickly, I couldn't warm up in the best way, and when you turn the bike it feels heavy,” said Daniel from Mexico.

On the other hand, in the Cairns, the 25-year-old cyclist fell in the first heat against Frenchman Herve Challan, who then beat Bryant Booth, and ended his participation when he lost to Dakin in the quarter-finals.

“We were very good in the second test, in one heat I was eliminated because I didn't maintain the line, but we managed to get up on the repsages to stay in the fight and I got the chance to face Olympian Sam. A great learning experience,” he added.

Finally, Daniel Ciudad will resume his training on the Deportiva track ahead of the Nations Cup in New Zealand in February.

“This is the first official scheduled tournament I've already had, we're preparing ourselves physically and mentally to score points and be in good shape,” concluded the student of Maribel Díaz.
