Experts will assess the housing crisis in Hialeah

Must Read

Residents of Hialeah, Florida are suffering more and more every day from the current affordable housing crisis. Many even decide to move out of state because they cannot afford their house or apartment. It is a fact that closely affects thousands of people today who are looking for an affordable roof, something that is almost impossible to obtain.

Specifically, to address issues of this nature, Hialeah will convene a committee of experts. Rents continue to rise and the local government needs to find solutions as quickly as possible. One of several examples out there today was unveiled to the board by Charlie Morrell, a biology student from Miami-Dade.

“I am here (at the council session) representing my family and my community. We have just been notified that my grandmother’s rent will go up from $1,300.00 to $1,550.00. He also said his grandmother lives alone with a $700.00 social security check. “We have to make sure we pay the rest, but (with the increase) we’re not sure where that rest will come from.”

By the way, Councilman Jesús Tendidor proposed creating a committee of experts to analyze the affordable housing situation in Hialeah. It also aims to help officials find the best solution for the community.

What to do?

In the midst of this panorama, Tendidor commented on how to address the problem. “We should try to negotiate with developers when they ask the city to change their building proposal.” “We will help the private sector, but they have to help people too,” the Chancellor explained.

Mayor Esteban Bovo Jr. said the committee will consist of representatives from the following three sectors.

– Public sector: Led by government officials who managed public policies related to public housing and affordable housing.

-Special: With developers implementing affordable housing in Miami-Dade County.

-Legal: Represented by attorneys experienced in land use change, zoning, as well as affordable housing.

The council member’s “ideal proposal” would be to provide housing within a range of 50% to 80% of the area median income. This can range from $700.00 to $900.00 for a one bedroom, one bathroom home.
