Food Truck Owners Say They’re Taking Losses From NASCAR – Telemundo Chicago

CHICAGO — With just days to go before the NASCAR Chicago race, preparations are underway at Grant Park, but several food truck owners who are regulars in the downtown area say the event will only cost them money.

Food trucks parked on Monroe Street between Columbus Drive and Michigan Avenue will have to move, so they will not be able to be in that area from Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7.

They will be able to return on Monday morning, July 8, when the street reopens as part of the scheduled closures for the NASCAR race.

According to many food truck owners, this translates into losses for them because they cannot park their vehicles nearby. Some added that they were fined last year.

Not being able to open their businesses, especially during events that draw crowds to downtown Chicago, creates losses for them who typically operate about four months a year due to weather conditions.

“It affects us a lot because weekend So Fourth of July sales are affected this year. “It seems to me that we won’t be able to work for fear that the police will come and take us away,” said Germán Guerrero, who owns the Caseras food truck.

“It hurts us, not just personally, but it hurts the other partners of the other trucks in particular because this is when tourism comes in, there are a lot of events and people come to eat here, so it hurts us because it’s approaching Friday. Saturday and Sunday is when people come in,” said Maria de los Angeles Cespedes, co-owner of Delicias Chicago.
