The song “Give Me My Girl” by Hombres G is about to celebrate its fourth decade and during that time it has been sung by countless people. In recent years, his lyrics have sparked some controversy, highlighted by the verse “I’ll avenge that Mary**”, a term considered homophobic.

In a recent interview, David Summers, the band’s vocalist who wrote the song to “corrupt” his ex-girlfriend and new partner, shared his perspective. “For us, it’s just another word. The problem is the absolute loss of common sense. The song is not meant to offend anyone, it’s a joke. In fact, no one has been offended yet, and it’s been 40 years since we’ve done it.” Los 40 Classic.

Drummer Javier Molina emphasized that there was more “freedom” in the earlier music. “It’s not that people are used to thinking this way, this comes from a certain political ideology that is invading the damned planet. They are cutting off our freedom of expression and freedom of thought. It’s a way of dictating to you what to do, from a dictatorship,” he added.

On her latest album, Mexican singer Thalía covered the song with Summers, avoiding using the word. “Now they are suggesting to us in some way,” he declares. “I will not change a single comma of what I wrote because I have never written anything that would offend anyone in my life.”
