A press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlights this issue as one of the developments achieved by the bilateral technical meeting that concluded on Thursday between the authorities of the two countries in order to provide differentiated and comprehensive care.
As reported, the meeting discussed in detail the profiles of migrant children and adolescents and the national processes in place for their care, protection, reintegration and return.
The two countries stressed the importance of coordination between institutions to deal with this phenomenon, as well as the need to exchange bilateral information.
According to the official note, the Honduran delegation was headed by the Director General of Migrant Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Representatives of the National Institute for Migration, the Directorate for Children, Adolescents and the Family, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Inter-Institutional Committee to Combat Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking also participated.
For Guatemala, authorities from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Secretariat for Social Welfare of the Presidency, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, the Guatemalan Institute for Migration and the Secretariat for Social Works of the President’s Wife stepped in.
They were technically accompanied by the Program for Attention, Mobilization and Advocacy for Children and Adolescents (Guatemala) and the Coordinator of Special Institutions for Girls, Boys, Adolescents and Youth and Their Rights (Honduras).
