The Minister of Health and Consumption of the Andalusian Junta, Catalina García, confirmed that given the impossibility of replacing pediatricians who go on vacation in some municipalities of Jaén, the care of children is guaranteed by “family doctors”, while accusing the Government of Spain of not solving the problem of lack of professionals.
It was pointed out Friday in Jaén, during a visit to the works of the future Alameda Health Center and to reporters’ questions after the Socialist Workers Party criticized that residents with only one pediatrician, such as Filatores, Huilma or Campbell, “will be left without a pediatrician in July due to negligence or Foolishness of the Council”, because “it does not plan to cover its vacations with replacements.”
“I would like to tell the PSOE that he had five ministers in the Ministry of Health for five years and they did not solve one of the biggest problems we have, not in Andalusia, but in the national health system, which is the lack of professionals,” García stated.
In this regard, he stressed that the council “has been requesting for four years an exceptional invitation for a MIR (trainee resident doctor – for those groups that suffer from a shortage, including pediatricians.”
However, the head of the Andalusian Health Department spoke of “four lost years” because these extraordinary operations were not carried out, as they were also, in her opinion, with regard to the venues.
At this point, he explained, the ministry is required to “hold the same positions with university graduates.” And despite this, “this year and last year, 4,000 professionals were excluded from specialized training because not enough places were attended.”
“With the guarantee of help, but we do not have the ability to replace pediatricians who go on vacation. But family doctors and family and community care professionals take care of children without any kind of problem,” García concluded.
